The end of something big

Per l’ultima volta, ciao a tutti!! HOLY SH*T, I’m sorry but I don’t have any words and still can’t believe how fast time went by! This was the last week of my exchange in Sicily, It’s time to close a beautiful chapter in my life, a chapter full of ups and downs, new discoveries, new people, and most of all personal growth… Now my suitcases are packed, my room is empty again, I’ve said goodbye to my classmates, my hobbies, … I’ve said goodbye to this life. It doesn’t feel right tough, the last weeks I’ve been feeling really at ease here, like I started to become part of people’s life here. The people at the gym, the people from the pool, the people from school, my lovely neighbor I waved to almost every day from my balcony… I will miss them a lot. All these memories and little habits I made here will become old ones once I leave this place, but those memories I well cherish forever, that is for sure. Tomorrow morning I’m going to the airport in Catania and there I will say goo...

Un giorno nella mia vita Italiana

Ciao a tutti! It's been a while, isn’t it? Also these past weeks have flown by in the blink of an eye. It's almost surreal to think that my journey here is nearing its end. Lately, people have been asking me how I feel about returning to Belgium, and honestly, it's a complex question. I'll miss the friends who have become like family, the inspiring individuals I've met, those who supported me throughout my exchange, the crazy teachers, the slightly chaotic yet charming lifestyle, and of course, my host family... the list goes on and on. Despite the bittersweet farewell to this place, I'm also excited for the reunion with my friends and family back home, especially our beloved dog, Jamie. I miss them very much, more than I would’ve thought before I left.   This time, I wanted to give you a glimpse into a day in my life here, so you can truly visualize the experience. Today is Wednesday, 8/11, which means it's a school day, but fortunately, I have some en...

Embracing Culture, Making Memories, and Cherishing Every Moment

Ancora una volta, Ciao a tutti! It's hard to believe it's been two weeks since I last wrote, as it feels like just a few days ago. Time has flown by so quickly, and it's finally sinking in that my exchange experience will only last a few more weeks... .   These past two weeks have been full of activities, filled with meeting new people and getting in touch with a lot of international cultures. 2 weeks ago the other intercultural students and I were welcomed to an 'aperitivo' event where we had the pleasure of meeting the volunteers who are supporting us during our exchange. We gathered in a cozy, vintage cinema room, presenting our countries, and listening to funny anecdotes and experiences from fellow students, all while enjoying delicious dishes. I really loved this evening!   Speaking of fellow exchange students, last week, I wasn't the only exchange student in my school; we were joined by many German students for a week. It was a nice change for me n...

1 month in Italy

Ciao a tutti! It's been a while since I last wrote, but here I am with fresh stories from my adventures over the past two weeks. It's hard to believe it's almost been a month since I arrived; time really does fly when you're having fun! In recent days, I've found myself enjoying my time here. Everything is becoming more familiar, and I'm feeling much more at ease, making this adventure even more enjoyable.   I've already spent a few weeks attending school here, and let me tell you, it's quite different from what I'm used to in Belgium. The school system in Italy is more chaotic, with larger class sizes, fewer tests, different course levels, rules, and schedules. Adapting to this new environment has been, and still is, challenging. The school days seem never-ending, even though they officially end at 13:40. We start our day at 8 in the morning with three consecutive lesson hours, each lasting 50 minutes, followed by a 10-minute break and another s...

The start of something big

Hello everyone! I'm Noor, and in this blog, I will be sharing my remarkable experiences in the enchanting town of Modica, situated on the picturesque island of Sicily in Italy. I made the daring decision to push my boundaries and embark on an adventure filled with surprises and intriguing challenges. I must confess, I had my doubts about whether this was a wise idea, wondering if I would regret it. However, I can honestly say that not for a single moment since my arrival here have I regretted this decision. Of course, I've had my fair share of ups and downs; after all, it's only natural when you find yourself in an entirely new world, surrounded by unfamiliar faces and missing your loved ones. Yet, there’s a person I’ve met who came up with these beautiful words that describe exactly how it is: "Arriving in a new country, losing all certainties – linguistic, emotional, cultural – is a bit like 'shipwrecking’, but sometimes being shipwrecked in the beauty of new k...
